What you may not know about group therapy:
Many people are hesitant to try group therapy for the first time. Please know you would have an individual appointment with the therapist to ensure group therapy is right for you at this time. It’s ok to be nervous!
Group therapy is a powerful way to connect with others who share similar challenges. You’ll find a supportive environment where you can learn, grow, and feel less alone.
Sometimes the best insights come from hearing others’ stories. In a group, you’ll have the chance to connect, give and receive support, and discover new perspectives. It can often be more effective to receive feedback from a group member than from a therapist.
Group therapy offers something individual therapy can’t: the opportunity to experience real-time feedback and encouragement from peers who truly understand your struggles.
I know sharing in a group might feel intimidating at first, but the space is designed to be confidential, respectful, and welcoming. Many find that they quickly feel at ease.
Group therapy works beautifully alongside individual therapy. While one focuses on your personal journey, the other helps you practice skills and build relationships in a supportive community.
Being in a group gives you the chance to explore how you interact with others, try out new ways of relating, and practice skills in a safe, supportive setting. People often tell me they didn’t realize how much they’d benefit from hearing someone else’s experience, interacting with others in a setting designed to promote self-growth, or how empowering it feels to know they’re not alone.
Many people worry about speaking in a group, but you’ll never be forced to share more than you’re comfortable with. You might be surprised how meaningful it feels to listen and just be part of the group.
